Day 1 - Thr 10 Nov 2005
Up at 6am to catch the train into London, then caught a taxi over to Paddington, with the most talkative taxi drivers - we took a lot of back streets, and even went past where I used to work! Took the Heathrow Express and arrived in stacks of time. Checked in at the business class desk with no waiting, but no chance of an upgrade - but I'm going to ask at the gate.
I did manage to talk my way into the United Business class lounge, I just showed my boarding card (not my Miles and More card) and got in. I'm going to get a cup of tea, and a shower, and then head for the gate.
I did ask at the gate, but no upgrade. Seat 36D is not the best seat in Economy Plus, it's right up against the bulkhead, where the projector TV is, and this 747 didn't have any personal screens. The flight was quite smooth until final approach, which was very bumpy. I didn't feel at all well, with a bad headache and the aspirin I took upset my stomach.
Off the flight and through immigration with a smile, skipped baggage claim (packing light!) and then out onto the concourse.
My pal was supposed to be collecting me, but at first I couldn't see her, and I was getting a bit worried, but after a bit of a stroll I managed to spot her. We drove to my Guesthouse in Woodley Park, and I checked in and then went down to Dupont Circle to get something to eat. I got a huge green chicken wrap (it was a spinage one), then we drove up to St. Patrick's Cathedral which was lit up very well. After that it was down to Embassy row, and Georgetown. Back to the Guesthouse by 8:30, and in bed by 9:00.
