I visited Bern in true Countrybagging style, I hadn't planned on visiting, but I had a Swiss rail pass, and noticed that I could take a quick detour between Zermatt and Zurich.
Bern is pretty city based around a loop in the river, the centre seems untouched by the 20 Century, with wide cobbled streets and tall terraced town houses either side.
I walked down to the Nydeggbrucke in bright sunshine, and then walked back via the Parliament building and Bern Cathedral. There's a view point just outside the Parliament building and from that you can look down into the river, and up to the snow capped mountains in the distance.
Everywhere you walk in Bern there are fountains with intricate carvings and statues on high poles at the centre.
Of course you can go far in Switzerland without bumping into the a clock, and Bern is no different. Probably the most interesting one is the Zytglogge which is an astrological clock, and very big!
