Introduction
I hate flying, and travelling by train is so much more fun, you can actually talk to people, get up and wander around, and even see the countryside out of the window. So the idea of taking the trans-siberian train has always been an ambition.
The more I researched it, the more I felt that I wanted to do the trans-mongolian (from Beijing to Moscow, via Ulan Bator), and while I was at it, I might as well see if I could make it back from my favourite destination (Japan) all the way home without having to fly!
As I talked about my plans to my friends, I found that number of people wanted to come with me! In the end Guy and David put their money down. Guy was going to meet up in Beijing and take the train to Moscow, and David was going to start in Hong Kong, meet up with us in Beijing, and take the train all the way back to the UK with me.
