Day 1 - Fri 15 June 2012
Up at 07:30, caught the bis to the station and managed to catch the 09:50 train into London. Just as well as there were signal problems at Fisbury Park, which added fifteen minutes to the journey. A taxi over to Paddington and a short wait before jumping on the 12:06 to Exeter. Train is pretty full, but there are still people standing when there are seats that are free. Got in on time and was deposited on platform 4. Luckily the train to Barnstaple leaves from platform 3, so had to walk about 2 metres!
There were only two carriages on the Tarka Line train, so it was a bit of a bun fight for a seat, but managed it! The guy in front had the wacky idea that talking about the features on his phone would be a good chat up line for the two college students sitting next to him. It really wasn't!
Popped into the tesco's opposite the station in Barnstaple and the walked down to the bus station. The 21a was about 10 minutes late, but £2.15 got me a single to Ilfracombe.
Walked around the corner to the B&B that I stayed in last time - room isn't quite do large, and the walls are a lot thinner.
It's started to rain now, so only walked a little way down the quay to get something to eat in a nautically themed restaurant. Well, in fact they had just about anything hanging up from French Horns to Bongo Drums, horse brasses to Bed Warmers, stuffed puffer fish to live gold fish.
Back to the B&B to listen to the shouts as England beat Sweden 3-2 in the Euro football!
Rang the Lundy travel service (an answering machine) and the service for tomorrow is 'at risk' and the captain will make a final decision tomorrow.
